About us

C venues creates and curates over 20 theatre, performance and exhibition spaces each year at our pop-up venue locations in central Edinburgh during the Fringe. Our aim is to create a platform on which to showcase the best artistic and creative work at the Festival Fringe. Our venues include both some of the original Fringe venues from the first days of the festival and some of the newest Fringe venues in the city.We are a founder member of Edinburgh’s Association of Independent Venue Producers.

Established in 1992, C has created performance spaces in locations as diverse as exam halls, hotels, churches, masonic lodges, Craigmillar Castle, the former New Victoria cinema, the SoCo Old Town gap site, and landmark buildings such as India Buildings on Victoria Street and now the Royal Society of Edinburgh on George Street, our newest multiplex venue. Our main Festival home has been at C, Adam House, Chambers Street since 2000. Our venue C south at St Peter's Lutton Place offers facilities for aerial performance in the theatre and outdoor performance spaces in the garden and on the terrace. Our original Fringe venues include our Royal Mile historic Fringe venues C too at St Columba's by the Castle and C cubed in the Celtic Lodge on the Lawnmarket, while the newest historic venue to join our stable is C primo, well-known to Fringegoers as the Hill Street Theatre.

C’s curated programme, encompassing drama, dance, physical theatre, musical theatre, music, mime, circus, cabaret, comedy, children's and family shows and visual and performance art, makes C one of the most active venue producers on the Fringe, with over 200 events taking place in our theatres, foyers and exhibition spaces. Alongside a broad theatre-based programme incorporating drama, new writing, physical theatre, musical theatre and children's theatre, C has developed a speciality programming immersive, interactive and site-specific theatre, and in hosting cabaret, circus theatre, physical comedy, performance art and cross-genre work. C's productions have come from and toured to cities around the world, and have won Fringe First, Total Theatre, Musical Theatre Matters and comedy awards.
